June 2014 Hamilton Gallery

Hamilton Gallery is pleased to present
Local Color: paintings by Robert Hofherr in Gallery I
June 5 – 28, 2014
opening reception : First Friday – June 6, 5–9 pm
painting by Robert Hofherr of Baltimore Harbor and Domino Sugar plant
Humans have been creating art in one form or another for thousands of years, and one of the primary sources of inspiration has always been the land itself. After many years away from fine art while raising a family and pursuing a career in graphic and marketing design, Robert Hofherr returned to landscape painting in 2012. He prefers to use an actual place as a starting point to create a visually compelling image using bold color, dynamic brushwork, and effective compositional techniques. He doesn’t produce gray paintings; instead he celebrates color, preferring even shocking color to bland. And, as a Baltimore native, he enjoys starting with many local landmarks in the course of creating his images. In taking the humble and everyday and transforming them, he hopes to open the viewer’s eyes to the potential that exists within them and around them.
